For five consecutive quarters business sentiment has been on the decline. Recruitment firm Hudson discovered in a recent survey that confidence amongst Australian employers has reached a record low.
Hudson’s Australia wide survey of 6,337 employers revealed that employer confidence for second quarter 2009 currently sits at 0.8 per cent. This is four times less than first quarter 2009 and roughly 47 times less than 12 months ago. Uncertainty caused by the Global Financial Crisis is to blame, making it difficult for employers to make long term strategic decisions. Roughly 63 per cent of employers intend to keep their current permanent staffing levels, 18 per cent intend to grow while 19 per cent intend on reducing staff. |
